Comments from trained mediators about the programme, Mount Roskill Grammar, 2008
The main thing that I've gained is with family problems at home. When my parents get into an argument I can now help them sort it out between them. (Young Pacific Island man)
Being a young Pacific Island person I've grown up with a background where violence and abuse is the way to solve your problems. After the mediation programme I took a broad look at it and it has really changed my perspective. Before when I went to go to solve a problem it was always with my fists or verbal abuse or physical abuse but now I look at the bigger picture, take out what's wrong and really talk about it. That's what I love most about the mediation programme. (Young Pacific Island woman)
I've been a mediator for a year and a half. Mediation is an inspiration to me. It has really opened my eyes to differences and also to appreciate them. (Young Muslim woman)
It is a really practical way of helping students. It's not just us telling them what to do. It is a practical way of them solving their own problems. (Young Pakeha man)
