350 Climate Action Festival

On 6 December thousands of people gathered in Waitangi Park to celebrate and take action on climate change on the Global Day of Action. They wanted to get the word out about the the concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. No more than 350 parts per million is the safe concentration in the atmosphere for the planet. We are currently at 387 and rising. In the lead up to the event, a demonstration was held outside Parliament, with secondary school students from around Wellington forming an outline of 350. They addressed the new Minister for Climate Change Issues, Hon. Dr Nick Smith and his Associate Minister, the Hon. Tim Groser, urging the new government to take effective and urgent action on climate change. They also requested that the government sponsor a youth delegation to the UN Climate Conference in Copenhagen next year.
