A plastic bottle full of water becomes a 60W lightbulb!

Check out the following video’s which show a simple and revolutionary invention: a plastic bottle full of water becomes a 60W lightbulb!

Alfredo Moser

In 2002, during a long electrical shortage at Uberaba, São Paulo, Brasil, Mr Alfredo Moser discovered a way to gather sun light in the house through plastic bottles hanging from the roof. Pressed by the scarce electricity, Alfredo Moser found out that he could light his house with a bottle of water filled with water and a protection cap made of camera film.

Mr Moser recommends a bottle filled with Clean water, and 2 caps of "sanitary water" to prevent any mold growing. The bottle is just refracting sunlight very effectively and produces an equivalent light power compared to a 50/60W lamp. In a rainy day, even without much light and direct sun, one still have some light.

Who the actual inventor is still remains in dispute, however.

The Philippines

In the Philippines the plastic bottle proves a solution to the light-deprived slums. Through the plastic bottle light bulbs the people living in the slums are able to light their houses at night. This revolutionary innovation could prove to be a solution to the excessive energy use of today's global society. In the Philippines, the solar bottle bulbs' installation work is carried out by the organization Isang Litrong Liwanag, which has already installed over 10,000 bulbs. These bottle bulbs are not only bringing light to the homes of indigent families but they are also are much cheaper than any other electricity source.
