Exhibition of Palestinian Embroideries
A Treasury of Stitches: A Labour of Love for Palestinian Women's Work
The Peace Foundation is delighted to sponsor a sample exhibition of the work of Lamis Mawafi - the 2008 Sonja Davies peace award winner - and a reception with the artist.
Exhibition dates: 10-11th September
Opening Reception: 10th September, 5.30-7.30pm
Where: Level 2 James Smith Building, 49-55 Cuba Street, Wellington (Meeting Room 2/3)
The Peace Foundation would appreciate a small contribution on the evening towards the hosting of this event.
Lamis Mawafi originally comes from Jordan, and immigrated to New Zealand in 2003; her work and writing investigate issues of travelling, immigration, memories and identity.
She attempts to give a material form to her experiences and interests by using textiles. Lamis holds a Master of Fine Arts from Otago Polytechnic and is currently working on an embroidery project that is engaged with the plight of Palestinian women in the Middle East and identifying themes in peace and war.
Lamis will be present at the opening reception on 10th September and at the exhibition on 11th September from 10am-3pm to discuss the exhibition and the issues surrounding it.
