Nukes News

The issue of nuclear disarmament has a strong history in New Zealand in particular.  In 1987, parliament passed the New Zealand Nuclear Free Zone, Disarmament, and Arms Control Act, making it the first Western-allied nation to legislate towards a nuclear free zone.

BANG Aotearoa wants to spread this kiwi spirit across the globe, making nuclear disarmament a worldwide value.  Our BANG branch was inspired by the 2010 Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons Treaty Review Conference.  We feel that this is a perfect opportunity for the world to move forward with our vision of nuclear abolition.

Below you will find a variety of links and short pieces with history and updates on the trail of nuclear disarmament:

The International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN) is a global grassroots movement for total nuclear disarmament through a legally binding and verifiable Nuclear Weapons Convention. Such a treaty would ban the production, testing, use and possession of nuclear weapons, and establish a timeframe for their elimination. A model convention prepared by non-government organisations has the endorsement of UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.

Global Zero:  The international Global Zero movement launched in December 2008 includes more than 200 political, military, business, faith and civic leaders – and hundreds of thousands of citizens – working for the phased, verified elimination of all nuclear weapons worldwide.

International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War is a non-partisan federation of national medical organizations in 62 countries, representing tens of thousands of doctors, medical students, other health workers, and concerned citizens who share the common goal of creating a more peaceful and secure world freed from the threat of nuclear annihilation.

Project for Nuclear Awareness is a US based organization campaigning for the elimination of nuclear and space weapons as well as promoting the enforcement of treaties and agreements about nuclear issues.
